'IMPROMPTU'  WW TRAIL RIDE 2020

Summer of 2020 found us cutting back due to Covid19 unfortunately.  So a few of us packed up and hit the road to find ourselves at Pillsbury State Forest for some amazing riding!

Here is some information about the area and a few pictures of the fun we had.  We plan on going back again, June 26th and 27th of 2021.

The trails at Pillsbury State Forest meander through a heavy forested area consisting of a variety of deciduous and

coniferous trees. The woods are dotted with small lakes and ponds where you're likely to see evidence of beavers and other wildlife. You may also find several varieties of wildflowers, including the yellow lady's-slipper.

The trail system in this state forest is especially popular with equestrians and mountain bikers during the summer and cross-country skiers in the winter. Land ownership within this forest includes state, county, municipal, and private holdings. Trespass laws are enforced. Please be aware and respect these lands.

Grouse hunters find good bird hunting in the fall. The forest is closed to off-highway vehicles so bird hunters are assured they will not be disturbed by ATV traffic while walking the old logging roads.

Recreational facilities in the forest include the Walter E. Stark Horse Assembly AreaShafer Lake, and Green Bass LakeRock Lake Campground and Day-Use Area can serve as a great alternative to the more developed and heavily used Crow Wing State Park.

*Registration is required via envelopes provided at each campground where a fee is charged.

The campground is along Pillsbury Forest Road. The campsites are considered "primitive," designed to furnish only the basic needs of the camper. The campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, and table. Vault toilets, garbage cans, and drinking water are available. Also available are permanent "picket lines" and manure bunkers. All sites are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Highlights: The day use area provides access to 27 miles of trails and a parking area for horse trailers.

We sure had a blast and hope you all can join us for the next ride!

If you do want to come along remember our rules!.....

1. No Men

2. No Children

3. One dog Per RIG!

If these Rules are an issue please feel free NOT to join us.  We have our reasons for setting them and they will not change and we have no issue asking you to leave if it comes down to it.

There will be drinking so we ask anyone under 21 must be with their parent!  We will not babysit or be held accountable if authorities arrive.

If you are drinking we ask that you do so responsibly!  No Drunken antics on horseback~ there is no hospitals close by.

This is not a Walk only ride!  If you have an issue with that- Please stay home or seek another ride to join.  We are here to help riders have fun and experience new trails but again, we will not train you to ride or babysit you on the ride, you ride at your own risk.

We will ride wide trails to knee knocking trails to possibly bush-whaking it!  Your horse will get miles put on and experience lots of terrain, water and obstacles.  Shoes are not needed but we found there are several spots that are rocky and ours appreciated the extra pads.

Potluck is always held on Sat night at the Main camp ~ you'll know it as the "loud, outgoing crowd" of women.

If this all still sounds like a good time to you then we'd love to have you!  Please click on the links for information on fees and directions.
